Still Life with Virginia
24"x48" Acrylic on Panel 2002
Private Collection, Venice CA
This is a still life I set up which
reflects my interests at the time. Virginia is the name of the pink piggy bank
on the right. I've done many artworks featuring her over the years, so I figured
this series should include her.
In addition to Virginia, this painting has a number of books, postcards, and
objects which all mean different things to me.
There are art books on The Pre Raphaelites, Symbolism, Cranach, and Gustave
Moreau. The other books are Rocketship Galileo by Robert Heinlein, The True
Believer by Eric Hoffer, Anthem by Ayn Rand and Tund by Thor Garcia. The postcards
are of paintings by Ruebens, Cranach, Gaugin, Warhol and Hals, plus pictures
of The Golden Age, Buck Owen's Nudie Cadillac, Vesuvius erupting, Ben Franklin,
George Washington, and Abe Lincoln. There is also a photo of Forrest Ackerman's
car and a painting done by Molli. As far as objects, you'll find a 9 volt battery,
an inflatable tiki totem, a musical frog toy from Thailand, a soft pencil and
a skull candle.
